The B8 Events will bring together artists, community leaders, activists, and the public. Clad in the scarlet red that symbolizes the clothing of the Burmese monks, attendees across the globe will represent international solidarity with Burma. Representatives from the International Burmese Monks Organization will be at each event to show a short video they produced, and to briefly address attendees. Throughout the events, rotating slides will show people throughout the world holding simple cardboard signs calling for justice in Burma.
Because these events will also be the launch of a larger campaign for criminal accountability – including an online campaign at www.globaljusticeforburma.org – they will provide an opportunity not only to begin meaningful engagement but also to continue with further action. Also available will be postcards for a campaign calling for the UN Security Council to refer to the ICC Than Shwe and four additional members of the SPDC, ribbons to display awareness about the situation, laptops and printed materials with additional information about the issues, opportunities to donate to or sign up with the campaign, as well as information about additional organizations working to assist the Burmese people.
